Mauritius

My tenth birthday holiday in Mauritius was, in three words, sunny, fun and hot!

We stayed in an all inclusive resort called ZILWA Attitude. What a funny name! The hotel had five restaurants! One available for breakfast, two options for lunch, and all five open for dinner! One of the dinner restaurants was adult only! We tried all the restaurants. At the Indian restaurant, the meat was perfectly soft, covered in flavourful sauce. At the Thai restaurant, there was amazing breaded chicken was served in delicious vegetable syrup. At the Mauritian restaurant, I ordered delicate pieces of soy in smooth tomato purée. One night my parents went to the adult only restaurant, while Harriette and I had dinner at the Kids Club.

Most of our holiday we spent by the pool, swimming or relaxing, with unlimited access to the bar, mainly juices and mocktails. We also went on a glass bottom boat trip, riding over the coral and seeing fish (flying fish, stripy fish, parrot fish and an eel) swimming by.  On one day we had a BBQ lunch on the resort’s mini island, where there were net hammocks drifting on the sea. As my father is an experienced sailor, he sailed as a child, we went out numerous times on a catamaran sailing boat brand named Hobie Cat. I got very wet sailing, and learnt how to steer the boat.Together, as a family, we also went on a snorkelling trip to the reef, where we luckily saw a Hawksbill turtle, which are very rare to spot. I named the turtle Billy.

My favourite parts of this holiday were snorkelling, and seeing Billy,as I have never seen a turtle in the wild before in my entire life.Another brilliant thing in this vacation was sailing with my Tati, since  it gave me the sense of being free on the sea. But, the best bit of this trip was being able to spend quality time with my family.
