Europe - Lake Konstanz

Heading south means that the landscape is really changing, and we are starting to see more hills as a precursor to the Alps that are ahead of us.  The temperature has also dropped quite a bit, and It would not be surprising if we get snow soon.

For the next few days we found a lovely apartment in a little village in between Marksdorf and Meersberg.  We explored Marksdorf first.  While a nice little town it is nothing to write home about, but we did stop at a little local restaurant and we all got our traditional schnitzel in for dinner.  The adults also got to try some of the local wines… Yum

Lake Konstanz is massive and we got to explore both sides of it.  On our accommodation side, we got Meersberg.  It’s a beautiful little town that is very picturesque.   Think traditional southern German houses, with exposed wooden beams and windy roads.  It was wonderful to walk around the town, but unfortunately due to being out of season, most of the shops were closed for the winter. But we got to enjoy the town in peace and eat an amazing apfelstrudell! With ice cream!

On the other side of the lake, nearly directly opposite is the town of Konstanz.  It’s definitely bigger and more lively than Meersberg.  Whilst not as scenic as Meersberg the town still has its own character.

It also has an aquarium that we had to visit.  Actually it was a really nicely set up aquarium with quite a bit of tech incorporated into it (like turning the kids drawings into animated animals that they could interact with afterwards on a big wall).  They also featured lots of local fish that are normally found in the Alpine lakes and rivers.  And some amazing penguins that zipped through the water, playing with one another.

It’s been a nice way to end our little stay in Germany, as tomorrow we head into Switzerland.
