Madagascar - 2 September 2023

An early start today as we have 83 km ahead of us to get to our next destination.  The 83 km still took us 4 hours, but in between we did have a break for our first Geocache in Madagascar!  We were happy to have found it as geocaches are scarce in Madagascar so we have to make each one count!

We arrived at our accommodation and had lunch there.  It was a proper restaurant with some delicious food.  Everybody tucked in and were happy at the end.

Our next stop was a private park with over 600 ring tailed lemurs in 44 hectares.  Let’s just say that we very quickly spotted a whole group of lemurs.  And we got super luckily to find a mother with twin babies attached to her.  “Super cute” according to the girls and parents definitely agree.

Whilst in the park, we did a hike around that took us up high to a viewing point.  Along the way we stopped to see a whole bunch of chameleons.  Today was Maxine’s turn to spot and point out the chameleons, she definitely has her mother’s genes in her!

After the park we got to see how the locals make hand made paper made from the bark of a local tree (Avoha).  The paper making technique was introduced by the Arabs in order to make their holy Korans.  These days they make beautiful postcards and cards decorated with local flowers (eg: bougainvillea), as well as other paper products.

The rest of the evening we were able to relax a bit, especially as tomorrow we have an another long day in the car.
