Well we had an interesting night… At around midnight somebody woke us up by trying to open the door to our room, repeatedly. We can only imagine they were looking for the bathroom which is the next door along the corridor. Then around 1:45am we were rudely awoken by someone blasting their car horn. So Mish stepped out and found some guests in distress. Her and her husband checked in earlier in the day, and left for a wedding.
When they arrived back, there were 2 Spanish girls sleeping in the room they had been allocated and all their stuff was gone! Major panic ensued, and we were unable to reach the hotel management, but eventually got hold of someone in the boutique chain.
In the mean time, the husband, a rather big 6’5” SA guy who had clearly had a good time at the wedding was feeling aggressive and defensive and was looking for a fight. He almost found one in a French guest who was rude and very unsympathetic towards their predicament, well done Mish for quick thinking de-escalation skills! About a hour later, another guest came home from a separate party and told us he might have the answer, as when he checked in he was given 2 keys to 2 rooms, and told they were moving all their stuff across. Crisis averted as the wedding couple’s belongings were in the second room! No body got much sleep after that!
Hence getting up Sunday morning was a bit rough, but we managed to check out on time and take the coastal road to Stellenbosch. Along the way we stopped to enjoy the beach again. As usual the kids had a blast and dragged half the beach into the car…
Once we got into Stellenbosch, our first stop was Robyn’s favourite vineyard, Spiers. There we had an awesome set of wine tasting, even the kids got to sample a range of grape juices! This was followed by lunch with another or Robyn’s family friends. It was lovely to catch up with her over a yummy lunch of Springbok steak and of course, more wine.
We finished the evening with doing our last wine tasting at Blaauwklippen, before checking into our accommodations. Definitely tired and an early night for us!
