South Africa - 12 August 2023

Last night it was suggested that the kids might enjoy more time with their new friends, which sounded like an excellent idea.  We got up and headed into Simon’s Town, to the “Scratch Patch”. This places is filled with semi-precious stones.  Literally, it’s a little outside area with a fake stream and polished rocks everywhere underfoot.  The kids each got a little baggie and could fill them up to their hearts content.  It took HOURS as we kept on finding more and more interesting stones, but eventually we finalised our selection and we headed to Kalk Bay in search of lunch.

Our friends took us to their favourite Waffle restaurant where you could order sweet or savoury waffles.  As we never had savoury waffles, we had to try…  Mish had a half a “Babe” waffle that had pulled pork and coleslaw piled on top, while Robyn tried half of a “Pamela Anderson” (as Mish called it “only one boob”).  Ultimately we are not converts to savoury waffles, and next time would have a toastie followed by a sweet waffle - the sweet waffles were AMAZING!  Yum!

After lunch we sadly parted ways with our friends and headed to Camp’s Bay.  It’s a beautiful beach right at the bottom of Table Mountain. Kids made mermaids and played in the sand for a good long while.  Unfortunately, the parents did not enjoy it as much as the kids as we had a constant stream of people  harassing us for a donation or trying to sell us their wares. Definitely feels more touristy and commercial than the Muizenberg beach.

Eventually we called it quits and as we were feeling drained from all the sun and fresh air, and we headed back to Muizenberg for dinner and bed.

This was our last day in Muizenberg, as tomorrow we head to Stellenbosch.
