South Africa - 11 August 2023

We got up early to go climb Table mountain, but as soon as we stepped outside all we saw was fog and really low mist.  So we turned around and went inside, and got our breakfast instead.  Once our bellies were full the sun was out the fog started to lift, and by the time we parked the car on table mountain, the mountain was waiting for us to climb in full sunshine.

We chose the Platteklip route, and it took us 2hr 20min to get to the top.  It was awesome to see the kids power through over 15000 stairs to get to the top.  We did have a bit of a melt down, not about hiking, but about line order and who was “leading”… Some great family conversations, including some silly topics, and many little snack or water stops later we reached the top!

At the top we walked around table mountain plateau and had a quick lunch before catching the cable car down.  Originally, we planned to go to the castle but after all that hard work and with legs a little like jelly, we decided to head back to Muizenberg and relax on the beach!

In the evening we went to a Braai at one of Robyn’s childhood friends - Bevin and Dougie.  It was an awesome atmosphere, chilled and easy, meeting partners and  catching up with old friends. The girls had a blast with the all their new kids. So much so that they didn’t want to leave when it was way past bed time already!

A fantastic way to end an amazing day, and grateful for old friends and new, all around the globe.
