Madagascar - 27 August 2023

Early start today, as we had to get to the airport to catch our flight to Antananarivo (Madagascar).  It was smooth sailing, or is it flying, all the way to Antananarivo.  We got through immigration, only after filling in a whole bunch of forms, found our transport and headed towards the hotel.

Very quickly we saw how different Madagascar is from all the places we have seen. Yet there are also a number of similarities, such as the rice paddies, the African designs, and french influences.  But it’s the poverty that really hit us hard with the nearly instantaneous begging.  This is going to be an eye opening experience for the girls.

Checking into the hotel was a bit more challenging than expected.  It started with there not being enough beds for all of us, and went downhill from there.  Luckily with a lot of pushing from Robyn and Wawa, the rooms got sorted for at least this one night.   It did call for a celebratory drink in the end.  After which we headed out to dinner.

We soon found out that the restaurant we chose, only starts dinner service at 19:00.  So instead we went with the “snack” menu.  Chips, mini burgers, pizzas and chicken nuggets.  It was a bit of a greasy meal…

And so ends our first day in Madagascar.  Tomorrow the adventure starts in ernst.
