HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!!! Kids were up with the sun and we had cuddles and a few little handmade presents, then breakfast on board the train.
Arrived Surat Thani around 8:30am and had 3 options for travel to the island… again, we chose the 1st class option this time… a drive of about an hour East of Surat Thani, to board a speedboat for the 45min journey to the island of Koh Sumai. Boat took longer than expected as we did not land at original destination (waves were too big), so had to travel on to the north of the island to disembark. For the last 25min Maxine was struggling with needing a wee, and concurrent sea sickness…
Eventually arrived and after a toilet stop, hopped on a local van to our accommodation - The MUD. It’s and eco-lodge with literal mud huts, but very nicely done, an open air kitchen/restaurant and a pool with a view and steps direct to the ocean.
After a shower and some lunch, Robyn had an afternoon nap and Mish and the girls went exploring, or rather wading out towards the sea. Relaxing afternoon and a gorgeous sunset with Thai curry and cocktails for dinner. What a way to start another year around the sun.
