Thailand - 17 May 2023

As we had a late night, we managed to “sleep” in today.  What that means for the Wozny clan is that we were up and out of the hostel by 8am.  Our first stop was a local market to find some breakfast.

Once we filled up on fresh fruit and waffles, we headed to the area where our Thai dance lesson was going to be held.  As the lesson was scheduled for later in the afternoon, we decided to go exploring.  And we discovered a wholesale clothes market.  We enjoyed walking through the market and especially interesting was various fashion trends that are current in Thailand.  It is also the place where we think the Ladyboy show came to get their clothing and costumes…

After only seeing a faction of the market, we headed to the Thai dance lesson.  The girls got dressed up in their traditional dancing costumes and then proceeded to learn some of the basics of Thai dancing.  The girls’ favourite were definitely the finger extensions, something that we will have to find, as they have decided they wont leave Thailand without some!

Robyn has memories of getting the same nail extensions herself as a child after visiting Thailand…

We ended the evening with going back to the market and finding a few things for us, travelling has been really hard on our clothes, and also we wanted a few things to remember Thailand.

Before we knew it, we had to catch a Tuk Tuk back to the Hostel to pick up our bags and head to the train station.  The plan was to find dinner at or near the train station, we were very disappointed with the selection, but we made it work. Dinner consisted of mostly dim sums (which we went back for more) and a few other dishes that were not so successful.

Soon after “dinner” it was time to board our train. An overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, and this time we went for the luxury option of 1st class.  This turned out to be 2 adjoining compartments with 2 bunk beds in each.   We had more space than in the overnight train in Vietnam and the beds were marginally more comfortable.  Still, the girls LOVED IT!
