Harriette: This morning, we woke up at 6:30 am, half an hour later than planned….
We got ready and headed out to the flower market. There was a bit of a detour, we had to go the Metro and then figure out where we needed to be. When we finally arrived, there was so many different kinds of beautiful flowers. I have never seen so many marigolds in my life. We walked around for a while, before buying Mama some orchard flowers in a pretty bunch, for only 30p (equivalent)!
Then we ate some mango, and headed for the Metro. Before going to the Siam museum, we spent a good half hour in a cute little craft café. We played some rounds of exploding kittens, and one of Uno. We ordered iced Coco, a juice and a caramel latte, at the end, we got to write our own rating of the place on the little sticky note. When we arrived at our destination, which was Siam Museum, a really cool Museum about Thai history. We had audio guides, and looked at the history of Thailand. There are 3 dimensions to 'Thainess' - religion, nation and king. In one of the coolest rooms, you got to dress up in traditional Thai clothing. I felt like I was swaddled up like a baby, in my outfit. Great pictures though!
After the museum, we went to Wat Pho. This a large and very ornate temple complex There are lots of big stupas covered in mosaic tiles and decorative ones too. We walked around there for a while ,before visiting The Reclining Buddha. It was gigantic, large and gold plated. We couldn’t really see the whole statue very well, because there was big pillars in the way. Buddha’s feet and toes were covered, in unique mother of pearl patterns, and are so large, that when looking from the end, you could only see his feet, not his whole body. We bought some pennies to put in all of the monks metal bowls for almsgiving. Maxine and I had plenty to go around all of the bowls, so we kept some.
We exited, after seeing The Reclining Buddha, and went to go and find some lunch. For lunch, we had curry in a cute little restaurant, Mama and Tata had stir-fry and sweet-and-sour pork. It was yummy!
Morning review. Spicy! Exciting! Fun! Bye for now! See you soon!
Maxine: In the afternoon we tried to get into the Grand Palace, but we couldn’t because of the plough festival taking place there today, so it was closed. Instead, we went underground for a bit to cool off - there was A/C. We planned to take a water taxi to the pier nearest our evening event. We took the orange flag water taxi. It felt more like a bus than a taxi. There were lots of piers that it stopped at.
Evening entertainment was attending the Ladyboy Calypso Cabaret Show! At the Lady boy show, we got free drinks, and then on the way into the theatre there was a sign that said no food or drinks, weird? We were a few minutes early so once inside the theatre with our drinks, we read for a while. When it was time for the show, the sparkly curtain opened and we saw an interesting show. They all looked like ladies, but they had good make-up, as they were actually men! They sang and danced and had glittery costumes, wigs and even some feathers! After, we got to take a picture with 2 of them, and its weird, they look like ladies, but have a men's voices.
Speedster tuk-tuk back to the hostel and to bed!
