It was a very painful wake-up this morning at 3:30 to catch the first flight out of Siem Reap at 6:00. Luckily we were all packed and ready to go, so it was minimal effort to get out of the hotel.
Two flights were needed to get to Luang Prabang, via Vientiane. The lay-over was just over 4 hours, so we had enough time to sort out immigration into Laos, find some breakfast, recheck in our bags and get some schooling done. The second flight was was only 45 minutes but it was beautiful when we were landing as the city is surrounded in mountains covered in clouds.
And the temperature dropped…. Yes please! It rained in the morning, so the temperature was below 30oC which is a lovely respite from the 40+oC temperatures we had to survive the last few days. So refreshing.
We settled into our hotel and then headed out to find some lunch. This turned out to be an awesome little restaurant called “Bouang” meaning spoon in Laos, serving local flavours in a modern menu set, such as Asian tacos.
As a treat for the last few days, we spoiled ourselves with an hour long oil massage. We thought it would be a relaxing our, but oh boy they really applied a lot of pressure and elbow grease to our muscles. But the girls loved it! Outside a tropical thunderstorm rained down during our massage, but thankfully let up as we finished.
We ended the day with a visit to the night markets to find some street food for dinner. We lost count of all the different dishes we tried, most were delicious and we would eat again. However there were definitely a couple that were not quite so nice.
A relatively early night tonight as we need to catch up on some sleep.
