We are nearing the end of our time in Laos, as we head to the Capital Vientiane. Laos has definitely made a huge impact on us all, and we know that we would love to come back and explore more of it, especially up North.
Hence after a leisurely morning and crepe breakfast, that is another thing that we enjoyed, all the French influence in the local cuisine, we got a tuk tuk to the bus terminal. There we got onto our bus to Vientiane. With new highways, it was a quick 2hr journey to the capital.
After being dropped off in the city centre, we quickly made our way to the hotel in a "jumbo", a supped up version of a remorque (the motorcycle pulled rickshaw). Quickly checked in and then headed out to find some lunch. Luckily we did not have to go far, as the heavens opened up with a tropical rainstorm. The restaurant was definitely a local one, with cheap and yummy food. The one thing we have noticed in the last 3 countries we have been in, is that they tend to make one dish at a time, and serve it one dish at a time as well. This has lead us to be more strategic in choosing our food so that we can share it as it comes out.
The wet weather made it easier to come back to the hotel and focus on some schooling. Eventually the rain stopped and it was time to head out. We walked by the riverside, and through the ancient part of town. During the walk we found our last 2 geocaches in Laos.
Once the sun set, we found the food section of the night market and grabbed a couple of dished to fill those empty bellies with yummy food. It was an interesting food market, as not only could you buy the more typical dishes that we found in Laos, but various worms, bugs and frog legs were also available to buy and eat. All that can be said is that nobody was adventurous enough to partake in those dishes.
Tomorrow is our last full day in Laos before we head to Bangkok.
