Laos - 10 May 2023

 Harriette :

We woke up at 5:45 am in the morning! It was a very early wake up call. We got ready to go and see the Monks for almsgiving. Upon our arrival, we were offered sticky rice to give to the monks. Together we handed out rice, mine lasted the longest! It was like a miracle watching the long line of monks come and go, all in their bright orange uniform.

After the almsgiving, we walked a couple of streets along, to the morning market. It included some nice things, and some disgusting things too, we saw fish, all bloody and still with scales on, lots of fruit, including mangos, limes, lychees, mangostings, and a whole lot more, also there were some items from the night market. Then, we bought some avocado, mango (for lunch) and fresh orange juice for drinking now.

Next, we returned to the hotel for breakfast, and ate eggs on bread.

After that, we went to Saffron Café for morning drinks and schooling.

Annoyingly, we had to send some things home to be able to buy anything else for the rest of our travels. So, we bought a box , and filled it with stuff such as long sleeve tops and trousers and anything else that needed to go home. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a nightmare sending it. Soo many forms to fill out, and we also had a problem not being able to draw cash to pay for it. After spending half an hour in there, we were finally  done, I was getting a bit exasperated!  Then, we went to a bakery and ate some cake, and bought bagels for lunch. Next, we visited a fantastic, traditional Lao house museum. Together we sat in our room and ate our lunch.

Morning round off!

Brilliant! Wonderful! Very fun! I advise you to come here.

Following lunch and an early afternoon nap, we went on a trek up the hillside geocaching and to see some temples. We found 2, saw some pretty temples and walked up over 200 steps in 1 direction!

Back at river level, we stopped at a café for refreshments before meeting our guide again to view, surprise, more temples and go on a sunset Mekong River cruise. This boat was very luxurious, including day beds to lounge around. We crossed the river, walked many more steps up, Maxine nearly stood on a snake en-route to viewing 2 of the oldest temples in Luang Prabang.

Then it was chill time with a glass of wine and a beautiful sunset over the mountains.

Food Court for dinner, again, seems to be a firm favourite, though each time we chose different foods! Walk through the night market and back to the hotel for bed. Tomorrow we have a fast train from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng, our next stop of the tour of Laos.
