Oooh… the muscles, they hurt! We can definitely can feel our muscles today, especially arms and shoulders! Taiko drums are definitely a good exercise!
So it’s yet another travel day today, from Matsumoto to Nagano, just an hour train ride. When we got here, we took a little stroll through Nagano and found a park with picnic tables. It was a great place to do all of our schooling.
We had lunch here as well, before setting out to find our Ryokan. But to get there we had to walk up a very steep hill, and then through a temple.
We had a little relax and after that we visited Nagoya prefectural Art Museum. The girls really enjoyed looking at the paintings, and had some very strong opinions and criticisms… The museum had a whole wing dedicated to Higashiyama Kaii, one of Japans most renown landscape artist, and some of his works is gorgeous! There we bought some postcards of the art. Also there was a beautiful Zen garden.
Nagano is also known for its Oyaki, so we had to try one. The ones we tried has cheese and miso, and we all loved it. Oyaki (おやき) is a Japanese dumpling made from a fermented buckwheat dough wrapped around a stuffing of Japanese vegetables, fruit, or anko bean paste and then roasted on an iron pan.
It’s an early bedtime tonight as tomorrow we have an organised tour to see the local temple and the Snow Monkeys!!!
