Japan - 10 April 2023

The sun woke us up early this morning, so we decided to make the most of it and headed out to find 4 geocaches (only found 2 of the 4).  Being tired of pastries and Japanese style breakfast, we had a craving for something more familiar… so we got a proper McDonald's McMuffin! We made the most of McDonalds' and got a good amount of home schooling done whilst we waited for our train to Kanazawa.  We definitely got a number of odd looks from both the staff and clientele…

It took 2 trains to get from Takayama to Kanazawa, but we had some stunning scenery along the way.  Including some snow covered mountains that we know are near where we going after Kanazawa.  Once in Kanazawa we had a lovely walk to the hotel to drop off our bags, before heading out into town properly.

Started off with a walk through the Omicho Market.  Lots of fish and seafood on display.  It was a great learning experience for the girls, maybe a bit of a shock as well to their system, with much of the seafood still kicking!

Along the way we found a little garden to sit down and enjoy a late picnic lunch, before walking along the castle moat and old city walls.

We finished the walk going through one of the old Geisha entertainment districts.  It was a bit of squeeze with how narrow the alleyways were!

We checked into the hotel, chilled for a bit and finished off the home school bits we had left.  Then it was time to find dinner.  Kanazawa is apparently known for its conveyer belt sushi.  But honestly, it was a bit of a struggle to find some…  There were only 3 close to us that were open for dinner, and in the end a bit disappointing.  We all much more preferred the one we found in Osaka.

After dinner it was back to the hotel, as the kids found out that it includes the public baths, and we all know by now what that means… The other thing that the hotel has is some comfy beds (not more futons), that are calling out to the parents…
