A pinch and a punch for the first of the month! Seriously, time flies when you are having fun!
We had a lazy start today, with only getting out of bed around 9… we had all been reading for about an hour, and it was really sweet to listen to the girls giggling when they read a funny excerpt, and Maxine even read the bit out loud for Harriette to be able to enjoy too.
We got ready and headed out pretty quickly to find food for 2 starving girls! Mish found a lovely little bakery and we all had pastries again, but savoury ones this time.
Then onto the metro towards Osaka Castle. Detoured to an awesome playground on the way! It was surrounds by, you guessed it, cherry blossoms, and the kids expended some energy while the adults admired the play structure and the flowers.
The Castle grounds are beautiful, full of Cherry Blossoms and exquisite gardens. However, being Saturday and a gorgeous sunny day, all the locals were out in full force, and downtown was heaving! We waited in line for about 40 min to get inside the castle, and to be honest, it was not worth the time nor the entry fee. Very disappointing museum inside compared to Hiroshima’s castle. The outside is very fancy and ornate, but its a case of bigger and fancier is not better in this case. The only up side was the observatory on the 8th floor… yes, we walked all the way up and down!
We bought an assortment of goodies for a picnic lunch in the gardens, and sat under a Cherry Blossom Tree - as the saying goes, ‘when in Rome…’
We bought bubbles and sat under the trees after picnicking to finish up this past weeks school activities that were incomplete, and then the girls bought some bubbles and played and played and played on the grass dancing and popping bubbles.
Eventually we moved on through the shopping district and picked up a few things on the way back towards the hostel. We passed a converter belt sushi restaurant, and all plans for Okonomiyaki for dinner vanished! Dinner was a feast, and Maxine just kept saying, just one more as the Salmon nigiri went past… Truly a treat, and the best bonus is that it cost a fraction of the price than it would back in the UK.
Back in the hostel, it was times for a hot shower and getting the kids to bed. Tomorrow the plan is a day trip to Nara, Japans first permanent Capital City
