Japan - 26 March 2023

It’s another travel day, and it got off to a good start.  Early wake up with a quick breakfast, some homeschooling, before having a nice, but slightly drizzly walk to the station.  There we caught the train to NARITA Airport.  We were worried that there would be more horrendous queues, like the ones we experienced on arrival, but actually the pre-flight it was a short, efficient and smooth experience.  Without any hassle we were OTP (on the plane) to Hiroshima.

Landing in Hiroshima, we quickly found our bus to the city Center from where we found the streetcar (aka a tram) to the Ryokan … well except the ryokan that we booked was demolished 2 years ago and an apartment block was built in its place.  Yet you can still book rooms there… Just a little wrinkle in our plans.  Booking.com saved the day and we managed to quickly find alternative accommodation (for a reasonable price).  So after a quick bus ride we finally found a place to crash for the next few days!

With accommodation sorted, next requirement was food. We headed out to find some dinner and found a little restaurant under a railway bridge, little is not an exaggeration - it had maximum seating for 15 patrons! It serves Mongoi “Ramen noodles with soya sauce based seafood soup”.  It seemed to hit the spot for all of us.  A quick stop at the local 7/11 to pick up some pudding and a treat for the parents for when the kids are in bed, it was time to finish off the kids homeschooling and chill.  Mish was very excited about the pudding as it reminded him of his childhood sękacz

With the kids in bed, the parent finally got to their treat.  A bit of a blind tasting…

Report on the tasting tomorrow... if we survive...
