Maxine's Camping in Namibia

Packing

30th July 2022 we packed for camping. We did a lot of stuff, we bought safari outfits, veltskoens and food, then packed it in the car. We had mini burgers for lunch.

Day with Rocky

It’s the day Rocky is coming over! We painted, we drew, wove, made jewellery, had a tea party and lots more. We helped with the shopping (carrying it). Rocky went home and we had dinner.

Camping!

We left late, arrived at our camp late after a picnic lunch on the side of the road. We set up camp and had a lovely Braai. Then went to bed.

Etosha

Yummy egg and bacon breakfast, we then drove to the game reserve gate and went to the waterhole. We saw Zebra, Springbok and Black faced impala. We stayed in a chalet (hut).

Halali

We set off to Halali, game driving on the way. We saw a Lilac breasted roller (very pretty bird). Soon we arrived and set up camp and had a snack (ice cream). Yummy lunch of sandwiches.

6th August

Today we left Halali going game driving. We saw an African Wild Cat - rare! It was a black cat. We arrived at camp and set up, we slept under the stars and had a Braai for dinner.

The Big Four

In the morning we saw a leopard wagging its tail! Learnt 3 new trees - lead wood tree, fever tree and sickle bush (tree). We explored the camp, there was a pool, a playground and a camp.

Bush Baby

Didn't want to be late for the bush babies! They were cute, fluffy, grey and small. They jumped in the treetops. They have big shiny eyes to see in the dark.

Mongoose

We ate and went to see a bush baby, when we came back, something had licked the plate clean! We thought it was a cat, but we saw a mongoose and suspected it was the mongoose.

Mobola Camp

Long trip of 4 hours driving, stopped to shop at Rundu. Arrived at camp, Mabola camp. Ate a lunch of sandwiches. Explored and went on the suspension bridge. Had a nice long swim in the pool.

Ndhovu Camp

Ndhovu means elephant. We stopped at Popa falls, where we saw some rapids and had an ice cream. Went game driving and saw monkeys and stopped to call mom, where we saw Sable antelope with long curved horns. We stopped for lunch and fed the mopani squirrels, with bread. They climb trees and are very cute. On the way to camp we stopped at a fallen baobab tree. It is a big tree with very soft wood. Da took a photo of us standing on it!

We got a drink and went to the camp deck and saw hippos swimming - one opened its mouth, I thought it was yawning. This evening we saw buffalo coming down to drink. That makes all of the Big 5 in a week!

Buffalo Camp

At camp we had a drink at the deck and watched the hippos swimming slowly across the river. In the afternoon we took a boat to buffalo island. When we got there we met our guide, Bonny. We went to a little swamp with elephants and buffalo. The buffalo were following the elephant to keep the crocodiles away. We saw a lioness just after she had killed a female sable. When we came back to look for her, she had gone. We followed her spoor to find where she had gone to find her family.  They came out the long grass kissing the lioness (mommy), they followed her to the kill and we went back to the boat. The sunset was amazing! Back at camp, dinner and bed.

Kiasosi Camp

At sunrise we were 4 on 2 stretchers! 30 mins packing up and left camp. We soon arrived at Kiasosi camp. We found a swimming pool and a park. We made water silly shows and met a friend, she was from Windhoek. We played with her and had lunch and guava juice.

Later we went on a sunset boat, it was a bit disappointing we only saw one crocodile and some birds. We motored up stream and drifted back to camp.

Hoba Meteorite

We went to meet our new friend, played, and left after grandpa’s meeting. Long boring car drive on the tar road - got lost! Turned around and found the Hoba meteorite - it is the biggest known meteorite in the world! We had our lunch and went to camp. Tried to swim, too cold! Only got feet wet. Yummy BBQ ribs, and of course, toasted marshmallows. Very cold night under the stars.

Waterberg

Left camp and saw banded mongoose on the way. Saw kudu and Steenbuck too. Arrived at camp, there was a stuffed lion in reception. We bought ice cream and went to Chalet 81. We fed 2 Franklins and a dwarf mongoose and a banded mongoose.

Back home

A drive of 2 hours to get home. I read my book most of the way. When we arrived we quickly unpacked and me and Harriette jumped in the pool and swam. After a swim we painted - I did a butterfly.

Windhoek day 2

In the morning of the 12th of August we made a list of what we had seen camping. Grandma did 4 loads of washing, and we did some corn stomping - it was hard work!

After hard work corn stomping we built a bird hide out of blankets. In the afternoon we went to a playground. When we got there, there was no playground, only a mini zoo. It was disappointing!

We fed the animals in the zoo though. Later we did some painting - I painted a gecko.

Windhoek day 3

Rocky arrived soon after I had made jewellery set for her. Lunch was toasted sandwiches. Later we went to a pizza pub for dinner. There was a playground too! Then we watched 'who's got talent'.

Windhoek day 4

We all had a late breakfast and went to feed horses carrots. It was cool! We went back home and had lunch. Then we made lemon curd and meringues, and a delicious Braai for dinner.

Let’s go!

Quick pack and drop grandpa at the airport, then drove to Swakopmund - it was 5 hours. We stopped for lunch at Usakos on the side of the road. We arrived in the afternoon and played in Christa’s mini shop, it was fun.

Day 2 Swakopmund

In the morning we fetched Christa and Hildegard and drove to Tit-Bits regimental badges. We made a flower badge too, it was fun. Then we went on a long drive to Goanikontes. We had a nice long play and lunch of fish fingers. On the way back we stopped at the moon landscape, it was beautiful! When we got home, we flew a kite on the beach. We had 2 kites but 1 kept crashing. We had yummy pasta for dinner.

Cookies and Fun!

At 09:30 we went to Christa and baked some cookies, it was fun.

A small lunch and packed our sand boards. We drove to the sand dunes, couldn't find the right one, gave up and on the way back and we did find it, had a wail of a time! Back home we watched some TV.

Walvis Day

We waited for a long time for the garden service and they didn’t come so we left to Walvis Bay, Christa came too. We went to see the flamingos - we saw both the lesser and the greater flamingo. We had a nice lunch and saw 3 pelicans and a Cape Seal, it was so cute. We went sand boarding and got blown away with the sand in the sand in the wind. Later a nice dinner with Vera, Mike and Christa.

Let’s go to Windhoek

In the morning we dropped off the keys to Christa and said goodbye. On the way home we went to the crystal gallery and saw the biggest quartz in the world! lunch was on the side of road, we had fried chicken rolls. When we got home we unpacked and fetched grandpa from the airport and had eggs and beans for dinner.

Fun with Friends

In the morning we were up at 6am to fetch mommy at the airport, then drove to Jan and Rheta's farm. Vetkoek and cheese for breakfast. We found a sick baby lamb, we gave it milk, sun and love and it got better. We went home and had an early bedtime.

Flight time

In the morning we packed and had a Braai for lunch, then went to the airport. Got on the plane. At 3am I saw a guy drinking coke, at 3am! Finally we got on flight 2 and landed in UK. Caught 2 buses to Oxford, had a nap and went to tea with a friend, she made us animal shaped biscuits! After we went to Scarlett and Sienna, and were really tired.

Sleepover

On day 2 at Scarlett's house I went to soft play with Stacey and Sienna. It was fun and we practiced our play. Later we had dinner of a BBQ of chicken skewers, sausages. It was yum! The girls all put on a show for the adults, and they joined in too!

Yummy food

On the morning of the day we went to Wales, we stayed with  Joshua and Rose while mommy worked. We had a lovely time,  we played, swam and made chocolate brownies. They were yum. Later mommy fetched us and we had a long ride home. I slept on the way home to Wales. For dinner we had pasta and chicken.

Next part of our adventure - Wales!
