Magnificent Malta
Managed to squeeze in a date night (thanks grandparents) and we to Ocean Basket for some amazing seafood and a bottle of bubbles, remembered that we do still like each other and had a really nice evening :-)
Treated the girls and Mish to 'swimming with Dolphins' experience at Malta Mediterraneo Park. They swam next to ‘Sol’ the Cuban dolphin, experienced him in action and had the opportunity to appreciate his intelligence, friendliness and beauty.
Mish took the girls to the Science museum for a day trip, including the planetarium.
Swimming, swimming, swimming, every day, every opportunity!
Thursday was family dinner at Ocean Basket (again, can’t get too much of a good thing!) as a last goodbye to mom and dad headed back to UK. Kids staying with grandparents and heading back to Namibia with them in a few days for an African camping adventure.
Harriette's Entry
Today we went to Mediterraneo Marine Park, first we had to wait a while to get in, it was super full today. As we were waiting, there were two adorably cute babies! We went to the Coati educational talk - it was all about how to look after them and other animals, as it was the first presentation. Next was the Sea Lions, I found it very interesting as it was all about how to train the animals (with their hands) and they showed us some some of their tricks.
Next we got into our wetsuits, they were uncomfortable, but that didn’t matter. Then it was time to swim! We walked to the pool, touched the dolphin Sol who even squeaked 'Happy Birthday' in tune to a birthday girl and we sang to her.
SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH! In half a hour we touched Sol lots of times, and made him do lots of amazing things!
We had lunch and saw more interesting presentations including reptiles and parrots. Then we went home.
Explora: Science museum. We took the bus, arrived and booked to see the planetarium then went to see the mechanical exhibition. It was my favourite! There were many other exhibitions. I had a burger for lunch. I saw a music exhibition and also an optical illusion, and finally a guide to the International space station.
Bird Park, it was a long walk, but we eventually arrived. It was rather small, but packed with interesting birds. There were colourful Macaws, Budgies, lots of Ibis’s and Flamingos. But my favourite were the Owls (the snowy owls). Later we had lunch in the sweet English tea room, and swam, as usual.
Mosta Dome Church: we took the bus to get there, and it was very interesting. Did you know that it is the third tallest unsupported dome in the world? We walked all the way to the top - it was 76 stairs!
We also learnt about the Second World War. Did you know that on a Sunday during the war, a bomb came through the roof of the dome - but it did not explode and no one was killed, they thought it was a miracle. We explored the air raid tunnels and had ice cream, I had salted caramel and toffee flavour.
